Pediatricians recommend that a baby’s bed is wide and comfortable, as children spend many hours resting here. Furthermore, there are several, functional accessories that one should be aware of.

What are the requirements for a baby’s bed?

  • It must be free of paint, varnish and splinters. The child  needs to suck or bite pieces of the bed  and this can cause some types of poisoning, or even allergies. With wood furniture, make sure there are no splinters to avoid future damage.
  • Optimal height. It is advisable that the bed is  60 centimeters high, from the base to the highest part. Otherwise, when the child begins to play and move, it may fall over. Do not forget that they grow up fast and the little ones usually love to climb.

  • A special mattress. It should be  semi-solid and breathable,  with a height of about 10 centimeters,
  • Fixed and straight base. The mattress should  rest on a solid base. That way, the baby’s development in the spine is taken into account. Keep in mind that the little one will spend many hours in this place.
  • Parallel bars. If the baby’s bed has slats, the space between them should be  between 4 and 6 centimeters. This prevents the baby’s head from passing through them.
  • Wheels with a braking system. Some types of beds for babies have wheels so you can easily move them. At least 2 of these wheels must have a braking system  to prevent movements or accidents caused by unforeseen movements.

As you can see,  a baby’s bed needs to be both comfortable and secure.

When it comes to choosing one, it’s important to make clear that even though aesthetics are important, then baby’s safety is paramount.

Once the main factors around choosing the baby’s bed are in place, the next thing is  to choose which model is most appropriate.

Types of cribs

  • Traditional wooden beds with slats.  Due to its size, it is estimated that children will use it until they reach 2 years of age. The most modern versions include double height for the mattress, and even attached furniture.
  • For active parents and frequent travelers, there are  beds that are easy to transport, which are easily disassembled and reassembled.  They are smaller than conventional cribs, and can be used to sleep in or as a play stall. If you choose this type of bed, it is advisable to choose another mattress.
  • Many parents choose to make  an extension on their bed so they have the little one close to them. This type of bed has three parts and can be adapted to any bed.

Sometimes, parents think that a myriad of toys need to be within reach of the child’s room.

However, there are more important issues that need to prevail over aesthetics. Your baby’s bed  should be free and clean.

Toys and the location of the bed

Stuffed stuffed animals and pillows can be nice, but it is not recommended to have them inside the bed.

For example, a child sometimes falls asleep  in the presence of these objects, whereby they can become a serious danger  and risk, according to possible suffocation or skin allergies, among other things.

According to the location of your baby’s bed, the most important thing is that beds are kept away from objects. Nothing that could fall or cause injury should be within the reach of the child.

The room in which the bed stands is entirely up to the parents,  although it is convenient to have the baby close to you during the first months, so that one helps to control their sleep.
